How do I paint a yellow flower with a dark blue/purple background?
Should I paint the background, then the flower? I know that if the blue runs into the yellow, I'll get green. So, what comes first? What is the rule of thumb for watercolor painting. Thank you.
Water color painting: You work front to back. Light to Dark. This means you are painting the flower first, the background last.
Guash: You work front to back. Dark to light. Since it is a thicker paint that water color, but more translucent then oils or acrylic.
And just for the heck of it:
Acrylic and Oil: You work Back to Front, Dark to Light. Because the paint is a thicker medium, you can overlap the paints to make your desired effect.
