Ceramic Pottery Can you bake in the oven in a ceramic dish?
My mom painted this casarole dsh thingy and we got it fired at this ceramic pottery studio and she was wondering if she could bake with it in the oven?
I know you can eat off of it and i know it is micriwave and dishwasher safe

There are several things that you need to know:
What kind of paints are used? They may contain lead or other metals that are not used in dishes.
What type of glaze is used? These also may contain metals or chemicals that aren't safe to eat from. Some glazes may not be meant for high heat and may crack in the oven or micro wave exposing you to the chemicals in the paint. These chemical will leech into your fooods.
Now the actual ceramic may not be made for baking in the oven or micro wave because it may not be heavy enough for a long heating. You need to know if it is made of clay or other stuff. Clay is better.
