Help! What's wrong with my basil plant? 10pts best answer, pics included?
I checked in the saucer, there was a little bit of water and there were a few roots coming out of the hole in the bottom of the pot. Does it have root rot? My rosemary plant just died of root rot, how do I help my basil so it doesn't go the same way? It normally lives on the window sill of a west-facing window in my living room, so it gets sun in the afternoon. I live in SE China, BTW.
Why can't I just make the root ball smaller? i.e. take some of the roots off.
Yeah... -Looks like root rot- alright... 
You MIGHT yet be able to save SOME part of it- by cutting BACK on the watering (by half) & giving it alittle MORE Sun... But root rot is usually VERY "progressive" -and extremely hard to Stop- once it gets going... On the outside Chance it DOES survive however- make SURE you transplant your basil plant into some fresh soil (& throw the old stuff away). Root rot can occur when the soil stays wet for too long, & the soil goes "sour"... Hope you can Save your Plant !

Ladies and gents home made soup recipes?
No canned soup in China, I just made what I think is minestrone soup, (sp?) and I chopped up tomatoes, celery, onions, garlic, put in kidney beans, (miracles of miracles, I found a can of them) italian seasoning, taco seasoning, lots of black pepper, red and green peppers, rosemary, pretty much everything I had in the fridge and diced up some beef and fried it, put in a tiny bit of water to get the broth from that and added it - it was spicey, but not too spicey -- and tastes darn good if I say so myself I decided not to add olives, it seemed a waste of olives to me, they are hard to find here and expensive too
Would that be minestrone soup? Anyone have some good recipes to share?

I made chicken-oatmeal soup the other night, it was so good I'm making it again tonight. I saved the bones from cleaning up a package of chicken breasts and boiled them with a thigh and a drumstick, 2 cloves of garlic and half a chopped onion. Let them cook slowly for a good hour. When the meat is falling off the bone, remove all the bones and put the chicken back. Add a cup or so of oatmeal and a handful of rice and let cook another 20-30 minutes slowly. Add lemon juice and olive oil, salt and pepper. (I think you won't find oatmeal there but maybe use the rice, a few mung beans can be added to the chicken while it's cooking for more protein if you like them)
Your soup sounds like it would be great, you have to cook with what you can find there don't you?
