Old English How can i teach a 4 year old English as a second language?
i am a 17 year old.
I have recently started teaching a 4 year old english.. trust me its a hard job.
I start with great energy but by the end i lose the pace. tell me some nice ideas and ways how to teach her. i need your help. she needs to improve her listening, speaking and writing skills. Plus she cant understand either of the accent british or american. she learns in the asian style.
If you aren't particularly fluent in English, you might have more luck through computer and television so she can learn the correct dialect and pronunciation. I believe Rosetta Stone makes programs for kids, and if you can't afford an actual program, you could simply immerse her in the language, through tv programs and computer games from the US (playhousedisney.com, starfall.com, nickjr.com, etc.) It won't be an easy task, but the more exposed she is, the easier it will be for her to learn!

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The phonology of Old English is necessarily somewhat speculative, since it is preserved purely as a written language. Nevertheless, there is a very large corpus of Old English, and the written language apparently indicates phonological alternations quite faithfully, so it is not difficult to draw certain conclusions about the nature of Old English phonology. Beowulf In Old English And New English contains, just as the title states, both versions as a Facing Page Translation. The original Beowulf manuscript is the oldest surviving document in what has come to be the English Language. It is also an exciting saga full of action, adventure, heroic deeds, mystery and magic. It is magnificent literature. The Old English version is a classic masterpiece of Western Literature which, due to the evolution of the language, has become very difficult for most readers. To facilitate understanding, to make it easier for the first time reader to appreciate the beauty of the original language, the New English translation by the renowned scholar Professor Francis B. Gummere is provided on alternate pages facing the original Old English text. This arrangement makes it possible for the modern reader to immediately grasp the content of the saga and begin to see, on the facing page, the complex beauty of the original poem. It also gives the more advanced students an appreciation of the skill of the translator and the opportunity to extract new shades of meaning from the original text. By way of introduction, this volume also contains a short summary of the saga. A table of contents, not part of the original, has also been included which, in itself, provides a series of guide posts to help follow the intricacies of the story. Overcoming the difficulty of understanding the original text is the primary aim of this book. Those who are already familiar with Beowulf will surely agree that it is well worth the effort. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Old English bulldog is an extinct breed of dog. The Old English bulldog was compact, broad and muscular as reflected in the wellknown depiction Crib and Rosa. The average height was approximately 15 inches and they weighed about 45 pounds. A particular characteristic of the breed was the lower jaw that projected considerably in front of the upper jaw, which made possible a strong, vicelike grip. The nose was deeply set in the face, which allowed the dog to get enough air as it gripped the bull. The English blood sport of bullbaiting allowed for a specialized breed in the form of the Old English bulldog. The main locations in London for these exhibitions were Westminster Pit, Bear Garden and Old Conduit Fields. One of the breeders who spanned the transition period between the Old English bulldog and the modern bulldog was famous dog dealer Bill George. The Old English Boethius boldly refashions in Anglo-Saxon guise a great literary monument of the late antique world, The Consolation of Philosophy. Writing from prison around 525 ce, Boethius turned to philosophy to transform his personal distress into a powerful meditation on fate, free will, and the human capacity for virtue in a flawed, fallen world. King Alfred and his hand-picked circle of scholars in ninth-century England recognized the perennial relevance of Boethius`s themes. They reshaped the Latin text into an Old English version that preserves the essence while accommodating a new audience: the Roman Fabricius, for example, becomes the Germanic weapon-smith Weland. The translation even replicated Boethius`s alternation of prose and verse?only in this case with Old English prose alternating with alliterative verse. Chaucer and Queen Elizabeth each turned The Consolation of Philosophy into English, giving it an unrivalled pedigree of translators, but King Alfred was the first to bring it to a wider vernacular audience. Verse prologues and epilogues associated with the court of Alfred fill out The Old English Boethius, offering readers a fascinating glimpse of the moment when English confidently claimed its birthright as a literature capable of anything, from sublime ideas to subtle poetry.

The Lords Prayer in Old English from the 11th century
The Pug is an ancient Chinese breed. The Bullmastiff has origins in Britain and was originally a cross between an Old English Bulldog (a now extinct breed) and an English Mastiff. The English Mastiff was thought to have been brought to England from Greece in the 6th century (but that long ago….who really knows?) They’re not thought to be closely related, but another name for a Pug is a Dutch Mastiff.
