Why do I have so much free time to ask these questions?
Could it be the economy? Or am I stupid?
Economy. Stupid. Where have I heard that before?
4 1/2% unemployement, but I'm sitting here, by the phone, waiting for my employer to call.
The congress is about to legalize 12 million people, when they leave their crappy jobs to find better ones, will that cause a vaccum of illegal labor to fill the crappy jobs just vacated?
Maybe I should go to college? Or wait are those jobs being exported too?
Why am I waiting by the phone? If they told me on Friday that I wasn't going work until Tuesday I could have went home.
The hours I worked prior earned 36 hours off, I live 600 miles by car from where I work, if I drove 70 mph, how much quality time would I have with my family? Don't forget about rest I don't want to drive drowsy.
Am I a lazy American?
Do I know less about the effects of Illegal immigration than Mr. McCain?

Blue-tongue - why are we importing it?
The UK is supposed to be on high alert against blue-tongue in cattle and sheep. Twice this week there have been reports of the disease in imported livestock. My understanding is that when we export livestock, it has to be inspected by vets at least twice in a 28 day period before export. Obviously this is not happening in the other direction. Why are we not placing a complete ban on livestock imports to protect our stock?
Blue tongue is a very devastating disease to sheep but not that much of a problem with cattle. It crosses over between the two species. Deer, elk, and wild sheep can be infested with the disease.
The regulations on blue tongue between the US and Canada were a "non-tariff" trade barrier for years and probably still is. Canada claimed to be blue tongue free and any cattle moving north over a certain age had to stand the 28 day double inspection. One of the driving forces in Canada was the attempt to maintain the export market to Australia who also claimed to be blue tongue free.
One of the big problems has been the accuracy of the testing and the maintaining of the quarantines. The entire group of livestock has to be maintained together without outside exposure for the 28 day period. Tough to do.

The underlying economic fundmentals are pointing South. EC is not able to help out the Empire. Oil prices about $100 are confirming indicators of under-performing economy. Sub-prime debt crisis spawns related debt calls on unfortunate folks who lost their jobs and homes. The Debt Bubble is defalting slowly. All these factors do not bode well for stocks. It is a matter of 1-2 quarters before dividend yields reflect the recession now underway. Continued export of blue collar jobs and a growing Part-Time and under-paid and under-employed workforce will result in further decline of the Empire's treasury. The only thing that kept the Empire afloat in past is that investment dollars from abroad continue to inflate the U$. The significant cost of Foreign Wars and the War on Terrorism all add-up to a Great Bear Run down to 9,000 level – a 30% pull-back from the top – or back to April 2003. The recovery depends on how fast the US economy can restructure and re-employ its most vulnerable residents – blue collar community sustainers. The US Armed Forces cannot mop-up all uner-employed or unemployed teens and 20-somethings. The economy needs to restructure and focus on sustainable long-term investment in the 'real' economy.
