What are some good places to get things to make shadowboxes?
I'm going to make several of them for my family for christmas, and I want to know where I can get good (cheap) figurines, and I'll need a wide variety. Also, what are some good ideas of materials to use for the bottoms of them (all I can think of is lace for my grandma) and where can I find some good ideas for making them?
i googled "homemade shadow boxes" and got a few good results

joann's, michael's, craft mart... look for any other crafting stores you may have in your area in the phone book. they should have premade boxes that you can use.
cheap inside objects - what's cheaper than free? are you near a beach? a forrest? a field? (dried leaves, dried flowers - just press them between sheets of tissue paper with something very heavy on top) look around you outside, you'd be surprised at what you'll find. otherwise the other two have it with dollar stores and yard sales. also you can try educational supply stores.
for the bottoms - paint or a fabric that suits the person. the smallest you can buy at most places is 1/2 yard so i'd go check out the fat quarters at joann's (you can usually find them on sale for 99 cents). bamboo placemats that you can get at most dollar stores could work too - or really any placemat that you can cut to size.

Calling all Christians, need your input please?
I volunteer to decorate the bulletin board at church. The other day I put one up that has brightly green background paper with musical instruments on it. I added verses about making a joyful noise unto the Lord and I added lyrics from different songs. On the display table I added a mini organ, mini piano, bells, mini drums, angel figurines, etc. etc. A woman at the church acted funny, i could see the look on her face and I picked up a bad vibe from her when she read one of the lyrics. I had written "Forever I am saved by your love" in reference to Christ's love for us. Then I added brightly colored strings of lace to the table and she acted like that was wrong to do that. I just wanted it to be festive and joyful. The object was that the Lord gives us many muscial talents and we should use our talents for the Lord. What do you think? Was I wrong with the way I decorated? Serious replies only please!
I don't think there is a thing wrong with it. It sounds beautiful. In fact, I think i'll let our decorating lady know that as well. It sounds wonderful. People are different and she may not agree with it at first but don't let her sour outlook spoil the joy you feel. It sounds beautiful so hold your head high and know you've inspired someone!
