Laughlin Virginia Driving in West Virginia and Virginia?
Hello,
I have a fear of driving in the mountains. However, it looks like I'm going to have to go to West Virginia and Virginia. (I won't be driving, I'll just be a passenger.......but, still afraid!). We have to go to Milton, WV, then down to Beckley, WV, across to Lynchburg, VA, then up to Baker WV - pretty much make a circle taking us through WV, which is what I am seriously dreading.
I have driven across Pennsylvania on I-76 to Harrisburg, then down to Lancaster County, then up I-81 all the way to NY, going throgh the Pocono Mountains, etc. I did this pretty much okay, with only a few places where I got pretty anxious. I have also driven to Big Bear Lake, CA (which totally FREAKED me out), and up to Las Vegas, down through that mountain pass at Laughlin, and all across I-40 (through Kingman, Flagstaff, and Albuquerque - I didn't like all that at all, however, it didn't have any bad curves, etc. for the most part.
So, how is driving in WV and VA compared to PA?
Thanks!
I went to college in Ohio and traveled the PA Turnpike for 4 years and agree the PA Turnpike could give anxiety to most people bec it is very windly? with a lot of curves and the guardrails appear to be substandard. Surprisingly a few years ago we drove up to Lancaster PA from Northern VA and those highways brought back memories.
I also served in the military and assigned to Fort Lewis WA and have driven cross country from the East Coast about 3 times where the interstates are rather steep going through Colorado. I have driven up to Niagara Falls as well as Maine but I think PA Turnpike are in my opinion some of more dangerous highways.
Our oldest son went to VA Tech in Blacksburg and I-81 from around Winchester to Christianburg is a decent interstate with mostly 2 lanes in each direction and more lanes on the steep hills but there aren't so many curves like driving in PA. If anything annoying I noticed when driving I-81 is the amount of tractor trailers plus the driver needs to watch their speed limits going through certain areas bec SMOKEY is often hiding, plus a word of caution in VIRGINIA that traveling in excess of 20 mph over the posted speed limit if caught is RECKLESS DRIVING and requires a court appearance in that particular jurisdiction.

Central or Eastern Nevada?
Nevada's main cities are on or near the California border. Reno, Sparks, Virginia City, Carson City, Las Vegas, Henderson and Laughlin.
But, what about Central or Eastern parts of Nevada toward Idaho? There is so much land. Is it all rural and mountains? Why isn't there more development, residency, tourism or industry? Is it that undesirable? Does anyone know? Help appreciated.
On the eastern boarder there is Wendover that is an hour and a half from Salt Lake City, there are a few good hotels there, then there is Elko in Central Nevada, but that is a trucker and farm town. Then in north western Nevada there is Winnemucca and that is a hold over city if you are driving to claifornia with a few really cheesy hotels.
