Limoges Hand Where can I find information on my Limoges Old Abbey China dinnerware?
I need information on a specific pattern, it has a gold trim, small green and red ban, hand painted design of leaves and red little berries. The set I have has two types of watermarks, one has Limoges France with a star in the middle and the other is stamped HC France with a sword and two flags symbol.
Go to Limoges website and search. You can also search for antique china. Be prepared to spend some time going through pictures and patterns.

Pierre Auguste Renoir was born in Limoges, France in 1841. When he was 13 he started tp paint flowers on China in a Porcelain factory. When he had some free time he would go to drawing classes. He studied in the studio of Charles Gleyre, there he met his good friends Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, and Federic Bazille. They were the founders of Impressionism. He painted many beautiful paintings with this new style. For example "Luncheon of the Boating Party" and "The Bathers"
Around the 1900's Renoir's arthritis got so bad that he wasn't able to move his hands freely to paint. Not letting that bring him down, he would have a brush strapped to his arm so that he could paint. One of his last paintings was "Woman with a Mandolin".
In conclusion, although Renoir only painted to satisfy himself we all admire his talent. The last years of his life truely show how hard working and dedicated he was. He has changed the world of art for good.
