Plate Platinum Which metals can take a gold or platinum plating?
I have a key which is obviously of a non-precious metal, but it means so much to me that i would like to give it a gold or platinum plating. Will it stand it, or will it melt? Help, please.
The key isn't an antique... it is about ten years, so it's from the 90's
Probably best to take it to a key cutters then they could tell you what its made from. Chances are that it will be ok to do so as keys are very strong nowadays unless its an antique xx

I would like platinum plating so that I don't have to continue gettnig it rhodium plated when the gold shows through.
That seems to defeat the purpose of Platinum. Platinum is meant for jewelry because of its strength to protect the stones. Plating wouldn't add any value. Suggest getting in gold then graduate to platinum for an anniversary later if you can't afford it now.
