My cup and saucer design is not found on that page...
does anyone know how old they are? they look so new and perfect.
does anyone know any books I can read to educate myself about the various makers, marks, processes and values of bone china.
Hello,
Your cup and saucer dates to c.1955-1964.
Ridgway’s (an established middle class porcelain and earthenware manufacturer) absorbed several companies through mergers and buyouts including Adderly, Colclough (founded by the renown former painter of Minton’s), and Booths. In 1955 the consolidation of these names was nearly complete and it was decided to market the pieces with the different brand names listed with the name of the parent company underneath of their respective trademarks.
In 1964 Ridgway’s was split up and sold to separate china companies (Josiah Wedgwood & sons Acquired the “Ridgway potteries name and factories as well as the rights to the Adderly name, Doutlon acquired Booths and Colclough‘s ( Colclough had actually worked for Doulton previously as one of their Art Department leaders).
As for a reference on finding more detailed information about the company and its history I would strongly suggest that you purchase Geoffrey Godden’s “Encyclopedia of British Porcelain” To date it is the most concise and thorough work on the subject (and by far superior to any of the options out there). For getting a better grasp on understanding 18th and early 19th century ceramics I would suggest W.B.HONEY'S old English porcelain- an valuable guide and easy to read book on the subject that is still used as a resource by museum staff all over the U.S and England.
I hope this helps you to enjoy your cup and saucer more! Merry Christmas!
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Vale Royal was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district with borough status in Cheshire, England. It contained the towns of Northwich, Winsford and Frodsham. The district was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 by merging Northwich and Winsford urban districts, Northwich Rural District and part of Runcorn Rural District. It took its name from Vale Royal Abbey, formerly one of the largest in England, which was situated near the village of Whitegate near the centre of the district. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Vale Royal Abbey is a medieval abbey, and later country house, located in Whitegate, between Northwich and Winsford in Cheshire, England. The abbey was founded in 1270 by Edward I for monks of the austere Cistercian order. The king intended the abbey to be on the grandest scale, however, financial difficulties meant that these ambitions could not be fulfilled and the final building was considerably smaller than planned. The project ran into problems in other ways too; the abbey was frequently grossly mismanaged, relations with the local population were so poor as to result in large scale violence on a number of occasions and internal discipline was frequently bad. MotoGP question...?
Ok, with only 12 weeks away to the first GP, who do you think will be the Top 5 when it ends in Valencia.
Ideally I would like it to be
1. Vale
2. Marco
3. Dovi
4. Casey
5. Dani
But think it will be more like
1. Casey
2. Vale
3. Dani
4. Marco
5. Dovi
Same riders in both. I think they will be the top runners next year. What do you think?
(BTW Got my Rossi replica Mugello 07 heart helmet - just didnt pay £10k for it or get it hand delivered by Vale - had to make do with Royal Mail!!!)
Agree with you guys, would love to see Nicky in the top 5 (preferably higher than Dani, unless he takes the "no more Mr Nice Guy" attitude, I dont think hes going to get very far. Hes definately the hardest working guy out there and I wish him all the luck in the world!
Hi Cheryl,
Good question and 12 weeks does not sound that bad - thanks for cheering me up.
I would like it to be
1. Vale. - still the best out there and no one can serioulsy convince me otherwise..
2. Loris - just a great guy who rides for all the right reasons.
3. Nicky - my opinion of him as a person has reversed totally over the past couple of years. Top bloke.
4. James T - not just because he is a fellow Brit but because he too brings so much more as a package and realises that the fans of this sport deserve more than just an automaton in a leather suit and helmet riding the bike fast.
5. Dovi. - he rode so well in 250 on inferior machinery and just go on with it. His talent deserves the opportunity and he also has an element of class about him,
However I think it will be
1. Vale - he will want to come out next season like a rat up a drain pipe.
2. Casey - the man to beat again and on my favourite manufacturers bike.
3. Dani - sorry I don't have any time for the guy. He has the personality of a haddock but a very good rider.
4. Nicky - if Honda show him the dedication he shows them, then hopefully they will give him what he needs. This man shows more class as a human being than any other rider in that paddock.
5. Marco - not so sure about this actually. A great rider on his day, tough as boots and I hope that he adapts to the Ducati quickly.
Enjoy the new lid just hope the weather allows you to get out on the bike ti use it.
