Serving Bowls Where can I find serving dishes for shrimp or crab cocktail?
During holiday meals with my family, my mother in law serves shrimp or crab cocktail in theese little clear bowls that nest on top of another bowl filled with ice to keep the crab or shrimp frersh. She calls them icers but has had hers passed down by previous family members. I would like to try to find them to use for the upcoming holidays but am having no luck in my search. Would anyone have an idea of where to try?
When you've set the table for a sumptuous feast, all the little plates, bowls and serving trays orbit around like little moons. Passing from hand to hand, lingering in the ever growing gravitational field of Uncle Bert who can't say no to seconds. He's a black hole of gluttony. Looking at your tray of green peas, the planetary metaphor breaks down. Your serving china is bland. Probably only pulled out twice a year for big family gatherings. Otherwise, sitting in the cabinet, collecting dust. That's sad. Your good-stuff should be used everyday! If it looked cooler, perhaps you would pull them out, even when you're having mac-n-cheese! These gorgeous melamine bowls are practical enough to do just that. Use them everyday! They're durable and stand up nicely to a delicate salad or a robust rib roast. Each design was pulled straight from outer-space! Sol, our main-sequence type-G yellow dwarf star! Luna, our battle-scarred co-orbital body! Good old Terra, our pale blue dot in a sea of stars. Each lovingly represented in durable melamine. So the next time Uncle Bert decides that he can't live without another serving of garlic mashed 'taters, you can hand him the whole world! Features and Specs Melamine serving bowls with celestial photographic artwork Fourteen inches in diameter Food safe Handwash only Keep it out of the microwave, but it's probably too big to fit anyway!

Just a summary.
Suzane, I found the same thing–I wanted to use the things that my mother kept stored away “for good.” They are lovely and brighten my days. Not a dinner service like yours, but teacups, serving bowls, even the silverware. It means a little more work–not all china can be washed in a dishwasher, for example because the silver trim will wash off. And no microwave use either, because many were made before there was such a thing as a microwave. and the silver needs to be cleaned every so often. I am finding, however, that these simple kinds of tasks are relaxing, almost meditative, and an antidote to the stress of everyday commuting and working.

Add onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic, sauté for 2 minutes. Stir in chili powder, cumin, and salt, and sauté for 2 minutes (until fragrant). Stir in flour and cook for 2 more minutes. Stir in broth, then chopped tomatoes. Simmer, partially covered, for 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Using a slotted spoon, scoop out most of the solids and add to the bowl of a food processor (leave remaining broth in the pot). Add about 1 cup of broth to the processor as well. Puree and return to the pot, stirring to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste. To serve:Set out serving bowls and add some of each of the garnishes to each bowl. Ladle soup over garnishes and serve.
