What would make a sky be red instead of blue, other than the sunset?
First of all, what makes the sky blue? Then, what would have to be present in the atmosphere for the sky to be red? Is it possible? Can the sky be red only over a small piece of land?
The sky is normally blue for the same reason that cigarette smoke is blue, the size of the particles. Google Tyndall Effect if you are interested. Sometimes the particles reflect the sunlight at just the right angle and you get red. This can happen at dawn as well as at dusk, although it doesn't make people as happy:
Evening red and morning grey
Start the traveler on his way.
