Heya... I have some questions to ask about stoneware clay. I have access to wild stoneware clay, and i have used storebought clay before but i have some questions:
1. Is there a way to fire stoneware pieces other than with a kiln? I don't have access to one and would like an alternative..
2. I don't have access to glaze either. Are there any techniques i could use for making my pieces look nice such as the burnt look, baking soda freckles etc?
3. Any other suggestions for me?
Do you know the characteristics of the "wild stoneware clay"
Where I have taken classes they are very concerned about protecting the kilns.
A test for a suspect clay would involve making a cookie or tile of the clay being tested and placing it in a bowl of a known clay during the firing process.
Some test samples have melted. The bowl contained the test.
Are there any ceramic or pottery groups in your area that you could investigate joining or paying a fee for firing?

Piece of cake. A baked goodie cooked in this fun fluted mold pan has a little something extra--flowers, to be exact! Coated with a unique-to-each-piece glaze, it's molded into a shape which imprints sunflowers on the sides of your cake or loaf. From Paula Deen. They're essential for some of my favorite recipes, like sweet and savory pies, quick breads and meat loaf, and of course, casseroles galore. Stoneware Glazes and Guy' Showroom
when throwing large (8 - 10lbs) my bowls slump. cutting them open shows that they are same thickness. why?
this happens both with stoneware and porcelain. no cracking happens and they bisque/glaze fire well. help please.
They are either too thin for their size, or the clay has too much moisture in it. You may be either starting with clay that's too wet, or adding too much water to the wheel when you are working it.

Refin Ceramiche: Floor Tiles, Italian Porcelain Tile, Italian Ceramic Tiles
which is better italian or spanish porcelain? and what is the difference between spanish and italian porcelain?
If your talking tile, one is made in Spain and the other in Italy. Sorry I couldn t resist the pun. But seriously, not a bit of difference since the manufacturer controls quality , you can get both good and bad quality in both and from both countries. This is so true with almost all flooring products I ve had to deal with. Any questions you can e mail me and check my qualifications there. GL
