You usually start by offering 50% asking price and then you get it for only 35%?! Wow, you're much better at bargaining than I am! I guess you mean 35% OFF.
If the other buyer will pay only $4K for the gold, and you can get a similar item new for $9K AND you neither appreciate nor acknowledge the suppposed antique value, then i would offer $6.5K first. Then, he has to decide whether to hold out for the vintage collector.
The relevant points are 50% new value = $5K. That would be what you would offer a private seller who was offering it second-hand.
I feel that your tiara is a special and unique vintage item. I like how you have contemporised motifs relating to your vintage item on your moodboard as you can explore the different examples of motifs. It sounds like you are very inspired by your designers and have some great and effective ideas for fabric swatches. I can’t wait to see how you have contemporise your vintage item in your fabric book. Good luck!
